Ranch
Getting started
Follow Heaven's Creatures with Kenenimuu:
- Speak with Gerald at the Caboose and bring 100 Wood, 100 Fiber, and 5 Copper Ingots for your first Small Livestock Shed Blueprint. This first shed has no gold cost.
- Place the shed on your farm, then return to Kenenimuu. He unlocks the Animal research tree, gives you 1 Nurturing Animals point, and supplies 5 Alfalfa Seeds.
- Research Animal Basics. Craft a Feeding Trough with 15 Wood + 10 Stone, place it in the shed, and add feed.
- Return to Kenenimuu for your first Stilt-Tail Pheasant. Open its sack inside the shed to release it.
- Keep it fed and happy as it grows. Bring Kenenimuu 1 Egg to finish the tutorial and receive the Sack Recipe.
Animals and products
Only adults will produce drops. They need food to build production progress and at least 40 mood to produce once that progress is full.
| Animal | Shed space | Main product | Collection | Grazing product |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Stilt-Tail Pheasant | 2 | Egg | Collect from its nest; it builds one if none is available. | Feather |
| Horned Alpaca | 3 | Wool | Use a sickle when ready, or install a Lint Roller. | Lanolin |
| Marsh Beast | 4 | Milk | Use a Plastic Bottle when ready, or install a Milking Machine. | Marsh Beast Horn |
| Morphohoney Bug | 2 | Bug Honey | Requires a Hive Box. | Beeswax |
Status icons
| Icon | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Ready to collect | A Horned Alpaca's Wool or a Marsh Beast's Milk is ready for manual collection. |
| Petting reminder | The animal has not been petted today and its mood is below 90. |
Getting more animals
Kenenimuu sells animal sacks through the Skychild Trading Store, with these base prices:
- Stilt-Tail Pheasant: 800 G once his shop opens during the tutorial.
- Horned Alpaca: 3,000 G, available when the shop opens.
- Marsh Beast: 5,000 G. Progress the Treaty Port story, settle the Skychild faction, and speak with Kenenimuu to unlock the offer.
- Morphohoney Bug: Kenenimuu gives you one with a Hive Box during his Golden Chameleon Bugs introduction. Afterwards, more sacks cost 1,200 G.
Use a Sack to pick up an animal for relocation. Open the filled sack inside its new shed, with enough free animal space.
You should aim to have 2 of the same animal to allow them to breed.
Shed capacity
Capacity is shared by all animals in a shed. For example, 4 Pheasants + 2 Alpacas + 1 Marsh Beast use all 18 spaces in a Small Livestock Shed.
| Shed | Animal space | Blueprint cost at Gerald's counter |
|---|---|---|
| Small Livestock Shed | 18 | 3,000 G + 100 Wood + 100 Fiber + 5 Copper Ingots |
| Large Livestock Shed | 36 | 12,000 G + 100 Rockwood + 200 Fiber + 10 Metal Frames |
The tutorial waives the first Small Livestock Shed's 3,000 G fee. Complete Steel Bones to unlock Large Livestock Shed Blueprint purchases.
Leave spare capacity if you want animals to breed: a newborn needs the same space allocation as an adult of its species.
Feeding
All four species use the same feed. Put it in a Feeding Trough or Large Feeding Trough.
| Feed | Feed energy per item | How to get it |
|---|---|---|
| Fiber | 25 | Cut weeds. |
| Alfalfa | 150 | Grow Alfalfa Seeds. |
| Rough Feed | 300 | Feed Press: 5 Fiber + 1 Thorns, 1 hour. |
| Emerald Feed | 750 | Feed Press: 3 Alfalfa + 1 Paddy, 2 hours. |
Troughs stop accepting feed at 600 energy, or 1,500 for a large trough. The last item's full energy is retained even if it takes the trough above that amount.
Grazing for extra products
Animals need to graze growing plants to build progress toward Feathers, Lanolin, Marsh Beast Horns, and Beeswax. Putting Alfalfa or other crops in a trough feeds them, but does not build this grazing progress.
Plant crops in accessible basins for grazing, or use a Pasture Basin for Alfalfa that regrows without watering or fertilizer. Grazing sets crops back one growth stage, so separate your grazing area from crops you want to harvest with Fences.
Basic care
- Pet each animal to improve its mood.
- Keep feed stocked so young animals can grow and adults can produce.
- Clear accumulated Poop.
- Add a Salt Clump or animal plush toys to support mood.
- Empty production equipment and toilets before they fill up.
An Animal Toilet stores 8 Poop; a Large Animal Toilet stores 20. Poop can be processed into Organic Fertilizer or used in a Poop Generator.
Breeding
Research Scientific Breeding and build a Breeding Room. It costs 50 Wood + 30 Fiber + 10 Copper Ingots + 5 Burlap at an Equipment Workbench.
For breeding, provide:
- Two adults of the same species in the same room.
- An available Breeding Room.
- 100% fertility progress and at least 50 energy for the animal starting breeding.
- Enough free space in the home shed for the offspring.
Automating the ranch
Research Automated Animal Care for the Lint Roller and Milking Machine.
| Equipment | Job | Storage |
|---|---|---|
| Chicken Coop | Collects Pheasant eggs in a nest. | 10 |
| Hive Box | Receives Bug Honey from Morphohoney Bugs. | 10 |
| Lint Roller | Collects Wool from Horned Alpacas. | 20 |
| Milking Machine | Collects Milk from Marsh Beasts. | 20 |
The Milking Machine needs power and uses 2 energy per milking cycle. The Lint Roller does not need power.
A Filling Drone can restock troughs from your chests, while a Harvesting Drone can collect equipment outputs and loose drops. Place the source chests and shed within station coverage; a Small Drone Station covers the entire room when placed inside the shed. See the Drone guide for setup and chest filters.
